7 Eco Holiday Decor Pieces to DIY! Craft the Christmas Feeling into Your Home

The holiday season has come around, and it is time to change your decor. In this blog post, you will find seven eco-friendly holiday decor ideas you can easily craft, plus instructions to guide you through DIY projects.

1. Scented Pine Cones

Start the season with the warm and inviting fragrance of scented pine cones. Gather pine cones from your yard or a nearby park, sprinkle them with a few drops of essential oils and place them in the vase.

2. Gingerbread Cookies

Create a delicious and aromatic ornament by baking gingerbread cookies. They not only make charming decorations but also serve as a sweet treat.

You can bake your cookies as you would and add a hole for the thread to each cookie before putting them in the oven. When they’re ready, thread a string through the holes and place them on your Christmas tree.

3. Paper Ornaments

An easy and sustainable DIY project is creating ornaments from paper. You can reuse paper that would go into the trash. Use different types of paper to make it more colourful.

Cut the paper up into slim stripes. Take two stripes and connect them in the middle, creating a cross. Then, fasten the leftover ends to form a bowl. At last, thread a string through the paper to create a loop to hang it on the tree.

4. Wall Art

Elevate your holiday decor with some wall art. Here are some ideas that you can use:

  • paint or draw something yourself
  • frame old Xmas cards
  • make a collage from wrapping paper
  • use elements from nature as stamps

5. Dried Citruses

Nothing says winter like the vibrant orange hues of dried citrus fruits. Create your own dried ornaments.

Cut slim slices of citrus fruit and place them flat on a breathable surface (ex. oven-rack). You can dry them out on a radiator or in the oven. When you have dried citrus slices, you can thread them with a string and use them as ornaments, place them in a vase or use them in other DIY projects.

Depending on your colour preferences, you can opt for different citrus types:

  • for red/pink, go with red grapefruit
  • for yellow/beige, go with lemon
  • for green, go with lime
  • for orange/brown, go with orange

They’ll infuse your space with a cosy and refreshing fragrance.

6. Oranges with Cloves

Another easy DIY project that gives your space an aromatic holiday feeling of oranges with cloves. The combination of citrus and cloves emits a beautiful scent throughout your home.

This project is super easy. All you need to do is stick some cloves into the orange peel. To make it more visually appealing, try creating patterns on your citrus. Place them on a decorative plate or in a fruit bowl when finished.

7. Holiday Decor from Nature

Walnuts

Transform walnuts into a charming centrepiece by placing them in a vase. This eco-friendly decor piece doesn’t need instructions. It’s simply an idea for a nature-related holiday decor piece.

Evergreen Branches

Embrace the natural beauty of evergreen branches as a sustainable holiday decor choice. You can arrange them in a vase or hang them on the wall/door.

Mistletoe

The tradition is to kiss under the mistletoe, so cultivate this tradition. It’s an easy and symbolic decor piece that will fill your home with a lovely Christmas spirit.

I hope you’ll use some of these holiday decor ideas in your space and that they will prepare your home for Christmas and be full of festive spirit.
