Probably, you can remember Earth Day from school. You had a great time & ton of fun in nature. Why should you celebrate such a day when you are older & what Earth Day activities should adults do?

One reason is to be an example for your kids or other young people in your surrounding. The second reason is to make a difference as we have more changing power as adult citizens. These few Earth Day activities will make this day enjoyable & environmentally productive.

get political

If you’re feeling brave, you can write your petition. If this seems like too much of a hustle, some organisations need your signature & support. A great way to support them is by donating, volunteering or simply sharing with friends & spreading the message.

go vegan

“In 2018, scientists behind the most comprehensive analysis to date of the damage of farming to the planet found avoiding meat and dairy products was the single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact on the planet. The Guardian.

Even if only for one day, Earth Day is an opportunity to try a vegan diet.

If you are starting your vegan journey, plan the menu earlier to be prepared & if you are a long-time vegan, maybe try some new recipes. So I could say that my first Earth Day activity recommendation is cooking.

educate yourself

There are many documentaries worth watching (for example – all the David Attenborough ones). If you are not a documentary person, on the official Earth Day website, you’ll find a map of events that’ll be a great source of education & something new that we’re not able to experience every day. Events take place worldwide online & offline, so search for what applies to you.

The theme for 2023 Earth Day is INVEST IN OUT PLANET.

adopt wild animals

As you can read on the WWF website “Adoptions are great for animal lovers and also make perfect gifts.” So give the Earth & yourself the gift of financially supporting wildlife. If you want to encourage your friends to take better care of our planet you can adopt an animal online for them & use it as Earth Day inspiration.

go offline

Taking some time offline can be an opportunity to connect with your friends & the planet. This way, you can also save energy, so remember to turn your devices off.

take a walk

The best way to connect with Earth is to surround yourself with nature. Going for a walk in the forest or park & enjoying the atmosphere will boost your mood & your appreciation.

pick up trash

You can do it on your walk or find a community clean-up event. If there’s nothing like this in your area, meet up with your friends & organise one. Picking up the trash will improve the quality of life in your neighbourhood for longer because it’s more discouraging to litter in a clean space.

plant trees

The most popular Earth Day activities are those involving tree planting. If you have an opportunity to plant trees, that’s AMAZING! Get your hand into the dirt. If not, no worries, take care of your house plants (maybe report them if you haven’t done it in your spring cleaning session) or do some gardening.

read

Pick an environmental book or some about nature, make yourself a cup of tea & enjoy your read while expanding your knowledge. Maybe take some notes that you’ll share with your friends & family later (this will also help you remember better).

In conclusion, your Earth Day activities should be an inspiration to you & people in your surroundings. As the cliche goes: Earth Day should be every day. This day should be a pretext for conversations, behaviour changes, taking action & education. Small acts can make huge differences, so share this post with friends, make plans & spread the word. Earth Day isn’t only for kids in school. As adults, we can do more, so don’t underestimate that.
