How to be inspired to live an eco-lifestyle? 5 habits to be more sustainable.

To change your habits & create an eco-lifestyle, you need to be inspired and find motivation and reasons why you want to be more sustainable. Inspiration should be a positive trigger for action, change & creation. The irony is that you need to act to be inspired and motivated. Here you’ll find five habits that will help you on your journey to an eco-lifestyle.

surround yourself with inspiration

What motivates you? Beautiful aesthetics, tips easy to apply, or maybe both? Subscribe to some sustainability content, create a vision board for your new, more sustainable life (you can do this on Pinterest) or watch some inspirational movies. Find what kind of inspiration speaks to you and surrender yourself with green reminders. Eco lifestyle shouldn’t be all about aesthetics, but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t create your unique sustainable aesthetic & get inspired by it.

make eco-lifestyle fun

Don’t think about changes & habits as chores. Instead, make them enjoyable and fulfilling. If you’re reading this, you want to change your life for more sustainable. You can join popular actions like Veganuary or Plastic Free July. What more you can do are step counting & walk instead of driving and attending trash picking events (you can meet some like-minded people there). If you’re creative, you can create eco challenges yourself and ask your friends to do them with you. You can find more inspiration in my blog post on Earth Day Activities for Adults.

plan for success

One of the components of an eco-lifestyle is planning. You want to be prepared and know what to do when you find yourself in a specific situation. How can you avoid waste? Will there be plant-based food? Do you have your zero waste kit with you? Maybe you won’t need one. Think of your lifestyle, how you like to spend time, what can be a problem & how can you make it more sustainable. Think of every solution you find as motivation & be inspired by the action of planning your green way to live.

learn more sustainable ways

Learning about climate crisis, waste & other environmental problems is hard. What’s more, is that with knowledge comes anxiety and responsibility. Let’s focus on that responsibility and things that we can change. Let the knowledge be your drive motor for that change. Living eco-friendly isn’t only about reducing your waste. It is also about choosing better, being political, voting with your dollar and giving an example to others. Ecology is so complex & without learning, we can’t make responsible decisions. Knowledge is power, so read more about the environment, watch documentaries, talk, listen, and educate yourself & others.

be inspired by your achievements

Celebrate little wins on your journey toward an eco-lifestyle. We make mistakes every day, but we also have achievements every day. Look at the positive side and ask yourself what good have you done to be more sustainable. Did you remember to ask for no straw? Did you pick the litter from the ground? Maybe someone you know took your example and implemented some green habits into their routine? No matter how small the win is, it’s always a win, so get excited and let it fuel you.

Finding daily inspiration can help you change your habits for more sustainable ones, maintain an eco-lifestyle & to do it with joy. Taking small actions can help you be inspired in the long run. Lifestyle transition is a process that should be sustainable & easy to sustain. It’s worth taking time, making it unique to you, choosing your battles & celebrating your wins.
